Hurray for the Salvation Army & New Pair of Glasses!

I found a book that I had on my wish list! I paid only $ 1.98! Hardbound and in excellent condition! We had some time to spare after picking up my new reading glasses. The day has been cloudy with some rain off and on. A perfect day to browse around the Salvation Army and see what goodies we could find.
I also got this one for .50 cents. After reading the heavy virtues I can relax and kick off my shoes with a novel about, "artistic vision and sensual awakenings." This wasn't on my wish list, but I thought I'd give it a try since I haven't seen the movie.

I'll call her Lilly.

She's done and ready to go up on my Etsy store. She actually does remind me of a girl named Lilly. We were probably in the 3rd or 4th grade when one afternoon she bit my arm while we were sitting at our desks waiting for the dismissal bell to ring. I guess she had some "Issues" she had to take care of. I'm lucky to have survived my childhood with not too many feral classmates. Oh, and her eyes did bulge out a bit like this. They called her,"Froggy". From what I remember this was the nickname she used later in junior high.

Labels. They are painful. Maybe this is why she had this pent up hostility. I'd get teased about my teeth and my nose. I got over it and I didn't join a gang. I survived.

So, this is my portrait of Lilly. I hope she got over it and became a pretty princess. I forgive you.

Descanso Gardens - Day Trip

Photo from Descanso Gardens website

This was a great day! The three of us finally got out for a nature walk. It was just one of the greatest days I've had in a long time. We went to the Descanso Gardens,
which is not too far from us. As you can see it has got plenty of paths to enjoy a good work out. We need it!

The Toot will be the leading the pack and clearing the switchbacks like a jack rabbit.
These are replicas of animal skulls. I'd hate to come across one of these when they are real, alive and cornered. The details in skulls and skeletons are fascinating. So much to observe and learn.
It's time to get some Audubon Pocket Field Guides to do some nature research with the Toot.

Two New Ladies

These are the two ladies I'm working on these days. A little every day and night. The Toot and I are feeling better and I'm on a roll with getting some sketches done.  The sun feels great right now and it's giving us some nice light in the living room. It will be nice to see some color on these two portraits.

Pink Dream

A Pink Dream on Paper

Ever dream about something that triggers an emotion or a feeling that you never experienced again in your life. A feeling that you thought or felt would never go away, but it does, and you don't miss it until you have a dream about it. So here it is for me.

Sunday, January 13, 2008

The day was sunny and we saw that the Toot was feeling a lot better so we went to Vincent Lugo park. A month ago we found these great sculptures created as a playground for kids. Today I brought my camera for photos.

It may be my turn to get sick. We'll see.

They remind me of huge paper mache toys. All for fun!

It's always an adventure to explore new places. This was just 10 minutes away from home. These are the things I enjoy finding when I avoid the popular streets.

My little Pumpkin is sick again

So I haven't had any time to paint. I've been taking good care of the little Toot and making sure she stays warm and comforted. I should be asleep, but this was the only time I had to get online and check up on my Etsy store and make this short post.
I am pleased to say that I hemmed a new pair of pants for this cold weather. All by hand. It's a good thing! Getting the sewing machine out and threading it takes much longer than just doing it by hand. I managed to do this in the short spurts of time I got while the little one napped. She kept waking with an awful cough. I know she is feeling better because she hasn't coughed in over an hour.
All is good and getting things done. Everything is getting organized and cleaned. I'm making a schedule for myself to keep the Toot learning new things. A lot of fun projects in store for us.

Blurry vision...I'm tired, and I need new glasses. Do you recognize the two moscas?

Her first painting

She dove into it like a natural. I'm a proud Mama and I took plenty of photos. By the time I finished taking pictures she had a nice wash going on. I had to stop her before she soaked the whole tablet. The Toot was furious and had quite a dramatic scene for me when I got her off the table.

Fun! New Art Supplies

Yesterday I used my gift certificate to Blick Art Supplies and I was in Wonderland. Oooooh! Aaaaaaah!
I had thought about what I've been wanting to get and found everything I wanted right away. Making some type of sculpture or figurine to hang is the next project I want to tackle. I've got an idea what kind of image I want to create, but I will keep that to myself for now. I also bought some new sizes in watercolor blocks for some more paintings. I am so excited about making new paintings since I got home with my new toys.

I also decided to make a schedule for myself for all the things I have to do since technically I am a WAHM (Work at Home Mom) and Homemaker. I want to make sure I keep my Toot mentally and physically fit. I know I can do it all. I've been reading other WAHM's who have been a moral boost and encouragement for me. I truly appreciate the Internet and Blogs!

I did enjoy the cloudy and rainy days, even though we've got a couple of leaks on our ceiling that caught us by surprise on the first night of the heavy rains.

Have a great day! The sun is peeking out as I type. Good Morning Sunshine!

Gals night out

A little something I have been working on in my sketchbook. Two gal pals out for a fun night out. Ready to check out the clubs on the sunset strip. Let's Dance!

Thursday, January 3, 2008

I am stopping here. I could go on and on with layers, but I'm ready for a new image.

These past few days I've been busy cleaning. I feel better when I can start new beginnings with a clean home.

Well, I thought I'd have a few minutes to write, but just as I was getting comfortable, the phone rang and woke up the Toot. She's now asleep on my shoulder as I type. This is not comfortable or easy to do.

I'll be back!
